Why have orthodontic treatment?
Many people come to us thinking orthodontics is just a question of aesthetics. And while it’s true that an aligned smile greatly changes your appearance, there is something just as important behind it: health. An incorrect bite can cause tooth wear, jaw pain, difficulty chewing or hygiene that’s harder to maintain. Orthodontics solves all of that, not just what you can see.
We’ve been dedicated to orthodontics for over 10 years
- A specialist with a master’s degree and official certifications. The doctors hold a master’s degree in orthodontics and official certifications in invisible orthodontics. Your treatment is carried out by someone who has trained specifically for this, not a general dentist who does a bit of everything.
- Endorsed by the most demanding associations. We are members of SEDO, AESOR and the World Federation of Orthodontists. Belonging to these associations isn’t automatic: it requires having completed the full specialism and meeting their quality standards.
- Every type of orthodontics in one place. We work with metal and aesthetic brackets and with aligners from several brands. We don’t recommend what we have, but what you need. And if your case requires combining options, we do that too.
- A free, no-obligation first consultation. We know that taking the step is hard. That’s why we offer you a completely free first visit in which Dr Zaplana analyses your case, explains the options and answers all your questions. No pressure, no commitments and no cost.
Our specialists
Your treatment is carried out by a doctor specialising in orthodontics with a three-year master’s degree in the specialism and official certification in invisible orthodontics. We are members of the Sociedad Española de Ortodoncistas (SEDO), the Asociación Española de Especialistas en Ortodoncia (AESOR) and the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO), the international orthodontics association. It’s no minor detail: it means we work to the most demanding standards of the specialism, both nationally and internationally.
What is the process like?
Before starting any treatment we carry out a complete study with X-rays, photographs and models of your mouth. With all that information the doctors analyse your case and present you with the options that best suit you. You decide with all the information on the table, with no rush at all.
When do you need orthodontics?
It isn’t always easy to know whether you need orthodontics. These are the most common situations we see in the clinic:
| Situation | Why it’s worth treating |
|---|---|
| You have crooked or crowded teeth | They’re harder to clean properly and build up more bacterial plaque |
| You feel discomfort when biting or chewing | It may be a bite problem that orthodontics corrects |
| You have spaces or diastemas between your teeth | It affects aesthetics and in some cases function too |
| Your child has baby or permanent teeth in a poor position | The earlier it’s treated in children, the simpler and more effective the result |
| Your jaw is too far forward or back | It can cause tooth wear and problems in the joint |
| You haven’t smiled freely for a while because of how your teeth look | That’s also a perfectly valid reason to come and see us |
Types of orthodontics we offer
At our clinic we are specialists in every type of orthodontics. We don’t offer you the one that suits us best, but the one that best fits your case, your aesthetics and your lifestyle.
- Metal brackets. Conventional brackets are the best-known option and remain a very effective solution for all kinds of cases. They are bonded to the tooth and, by means of an archwire, generate the movement needed to align the teeth precisely. They are especially recommended for children and teenagers, as they are more hard-wearing and the aesthetic factor tends to be less of a priority. That said, they require very careful hygiene to avoid the build-up of bacterial plaque around the brackets.
- Aesthetic brackets. They work exactly like metal ones but are made from more discreet materials, sapphire or porcelain, which blend in with the colour of the tooth. They are the ideal option for adults who want the effectiveness of brackets but with a more aesthetic result. As they’re made from more delicate materials than metal you need to take a little more care, but the aesthetic result during treatment is noticeably better.
- Invisible orthodontics with aligners. Clear aligners are the most comfortable and hygienic option. They are custom-made trays, practically invisible, changed every two weeks, that move the teeth gently and progressively. They are removed to eat and to brush, which makes hygiene during treatment much simpler. They are especially recommended for adults, for patients with sensitive gums or periodontal problems, and for people who need to space out their visits to the clinic. At our clinic we work with several aligner brands and select the one that best suits each case.
Dudas frecuentes sobre orthodontics
Is there an age limit for orthodontics?
No. We treat children, teenagers and adults. Orthodontics works at any age as long as there is good oral health. The only thing that changes is the most advisable type of treatment depending on the case.
Which type of orthodontics is best for me?
It depends on your case, your aesthetics and your lifestyle. At the free first visit Dr Zaplana analyses your mouth and explains what options you have and which one she recommends. No pressure.
Does orthodontics hurt?
It's normal to feel some pressure or discomfort in the first few days and after each adjustment or aligner change. It goes away within a day or two and is easily managed with a painkiller if needed.
How long does the treatment last?
It depends on each case and on the patient's expectations. Some treatments are resolved in a few months and others require more time. In the initial study we give you a realistic estimate before starting.
Is orthodontics only aesthetic?
No. Many treatments are carried out for functional problems: incorrect bites, difficulty chewing or tooth wear. Aesthetics matter, but oral health matters just as much or more.
How much does orthodontics cost in Valencia?
The price varies according to the type of treatment and the complexity of the case. At the free first visit we present you with a detailed quote before starting. No surprises, no small print.
