What exactly is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a titanium screw that we place in the jawbone or maxilla, acting as a new root. On that artificial root we fix a crown that perfectly mimics a natural tooth: same colour, same size, same function. The result is a tooth that chews, looks and feels exactly like your own. So natural that you end up forgetting it’s there.
From day one you’ll leave with your tooth. Never with a gap.
We know one of the biggest fears when losing a tooth is having to wait months with a visible gap. At Clínica Zaplana that doesn’t happen. In the same session in which we place the implant, we fit a temporary tooth so you walk out with your smile intact from day one. While the implant integrates with the bone, you carry on with your life normally: you eat, smile and speak just as before. Implant placed → temporary tooth the same day → never a gap between your teeth.
Why is it so important to replace a lost tooth?
Many people think a lost tooth is just an aesthetic problem. But something happens underneath that you can’t see: when a tooth is missing, the bone in that area starts to deteriorate because it no longer has anything to support. And the surrounding teeth, without that support, begin to shift. What starts as one lost tooth can end up being several if we don’t treat it in time. Replacing the tooth isn’t a whim, it’s a necessity for the health of the whole mouth.
An implant designed for you
At our clinic we don’t place implants on a production line. Each case is different and we treat it that way.
- Made to measure, not mass-produced. We take into account your age, your facial structure, the colour and size of the rest of your teeth and what you expect from the result. The goal isn’t artificial perfection, but harmony and naturalness: no one should notice you have an implant, only that you have a beautiful smile.
- A specialist looks after you, from start to finish. You aren’t seen by a general dentist: your implant is planned and placed by a specialist, with the whole clinic team coordinated so the result is the best possible.
How do you know if you need an implant?
There are situations where an implant is the best, or the only, solution. These are the most common we see in the clinic:
| Situation | Why an implant is the solution |
|---|---|
| You’re missing one or more teeth | Without replacement the bone deteriorates and neighbouring teeth shift |
| You have a removable denture that doesn’t hold well | The implant is fixed to the bone: it doesn’t move, doesn’t bother you, isn’t noticeable |
| You’ve been told a tooth must be extracted | It’s the moment to plan the definitive solution right away |
| You have a badly damaged tooth that can’t be saved | The implant is the substitute closest to a natural tooth |
| You notice a neighbouring tooth has shifted after losing another | The bone is already giving way and you need to act as soon as possible |
| You’ve been avoiding smiling or eating out of embarrassment | A well-made implant restores your confidence from day one |
Options when facing a lost tooth
The implant is the solution we recommend most, but we explain the alternatives with full transparency so you make the best decision for your case.
- Dental implant. Pros: doesn’t touch neighbouring teeth, preserves the bone, the most natural result and can last a lifetime. Cons: requires a small procedure and the full process takes several months.
- Fixed dental bridge. Pros: no surgery, fast result in a few weeks and fixed in place. Cons: the healthy neighbouring teeth must be ground down, the bone keeps deteriorating and it lasts less in the long term.
- Removable denture. Pros: the most economical option and requires no surgery or preparing neighbouring teeth. Cons: it’s taken in and out, can move when speaking or eating and the bone keeps being lost over time.
- Not replacing the tooth. Pros: no immediate cost. Cons: the bone deteriorates progressively, the neighbouring teeth shift and what is a simple problem today can become far more complex and costly.
Dudas frecuentes sobre dental implants
Does placing an implant hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic and is not painful. Afterwards there may be some swelling and discomfort the first few days, perfectly manageable with the medication we prescribe. Most patients tell us it was far better than they imagined.
How long does an implant last?
A well-placed, well-cared-for implant can last a lifetime. The key is good daily hygiene and attending regular check-ups.
Can everyone get an implant?
The vast majority of people are candidates. We assess the state of the bone, general health and some habits such as smoking. At your first visit we tell you clearly whether you're a candidate and what options you have.
How long will I be without a tooth?
No patient leaves with a gap. We place a temporary tooth in the same session so your life carries on normally while the implant integrates.
Is an implant better than a bridge?
In most cases, yes. The implant doesn't require touching the neighbouring teeth, preserves the bone and lasts far longer. A bridge may be valid in certain cases, but whenever we can we choose the implant as the more conservative and durable solution.
How much does a dental implant cost in Valencia?
The price depends on the number of implants, the state of the bone and whether you need any prior treatment. We carry out a full assessment with no obligation and give you a detailed quote before starting. No surprises, no small print.
